The Debt Game

Suggested age range: 12 - 16 years
Estimated time required: two hours, not necessarily all together (preparation can be done in a prior session)
Format: A4 booklet

Details: Detailed role play exploring the concept of the debt crisis from the different perspectives of all parties (government, International Monetary Fund (IMF), business, rural and urban communities) within the context of Latasica, a fictional debtor country. Requires a minimum of 12 people; no prior knowledge is assumed but the game is enhanced where some knowledge exists. Characters are explained well and able students can really get involved in the activity and adopt necessary positions and argue their case. It encourages further research and prompts discussion.

Please note: preparation time is recommended, possibly including an explanation of terms (our glossary may be of use).
