Vultures Swoop on Glastonbury Crowds

Our End the Vulture Culture campaign swooped into this year’s Glastonbury Festival and signed up thousands of campers. Everyone from Jarvis Cocker to Mark Thomas to Lib Dem leader Nick Clegg visited the Drop the Debt bus to show their support for the campaign, which aims to stop rich investors profiteering from poor country debts.

Haiti's gets debt cancellation – at long last

After a five-year wait, Haiti finally had its debts cancelled last week, when it reached completion point under the Heavily Indebted Poor Countries initiative. Since 2004 Haiti has been promised debt cancellation by the rich world, but this has suffered a series of delays, while the country has experienced devastating tropical storms and been on the front line of the global food crisis.

Zimbabweans call for debt audit

Campaigners in Zimbabwe have called for a wholesale audit of Zimbabwe’s debts to establish their legitimacy, as the country prepares to re-engage with the international community. It has been many years since Zimbabwe made any repayments on its loans, but with a power-sharing agreement in place there is beginning to be pressure from lenders for repayments to resume, despite a deepening humanitarian crisis.
