How to.... campaigner guides

Simple tips on how to get people interested and taking action on debt by organising events or giving a talk. Ideas are listed on this page, with full guides and details in the downloadable 'How to...' guides.

How to... organise a film screening

To raise public awareness and understanding of the impact of debt through showing films which tell the real stories of indebted countries. Films can have a powerful impact and are a great way to encourage people and bring out the real impact of debt.

How to... organise a letter writing event

To hold an event in your area focused on getting people to write letters demanding debt cancellation. There are different ways you could hold the event - for instance as a talk/film followed by an 'action session' where people write letters, or as a drop-in event.

How to... organise a speaker meeting

To hold a speaker meeting or event in your local area. This can raise awareness about the debt issue and about your existence as a campaigning group and allow your members and others to build up more knowledge and understanding of debt.

How to... run a debt campaign stand

There are many places where you can find campaigning stalls - conferences, church events, fetes, on the street - where campaigners feel they can raise awareness about an issue. Running a stall gives you a visible presence and a chance to recruit and fundraise, as well as to enlist support for the campaign.

How to... set up a local group

Jubilee Debt Campaign is a coalition made up of over 180 groups and national organisations. Local groups form the backbone of our campaigning across the country. They play a critical role in raising public awareness, lobbying MPs and government, and generally keeping debt campaigning alive. You can set up a group with any number of members or can even register an existing group, for example a local Oxfam group, as a member of the coalition and campaign on debt alongside your other work.

How to... write a press release

To let your local press know you are holding an event/ organising a debt action, and pursuade them to cover the event. A press release can also be used if there is news on debt or if you want to make your views (or that of your group) known on an issue.
