Forget Jay Z - it was all about Dropping the Debt

1 July 2008

It wasn't just the mudless sunny days and the controversial choice of Jay Z as headline act that set Glastonbury apart from the norm this year.

As bands including Groove Armada, Mark Ronson, The Hoosiers and Scouting For Girls created a stir across the field, the red Drop the Debt Bus at The Other Stage had its own crowd as over 3,000 people signed the Pick Up The Pace petition, urging the International Development Secretary to hurry up and drop the debt.

With bands showing their support by wearing Drop the Debt T shirts and singing on the Drop the Debt Bus, the message to Glastonbury this year was loud and clear – debt cancellation is unfinished business and YOU can make a difference. As a direct reaction to people petitioning governments, over $88 billion of poor country debt has already been cancelled - there is a long way to go but your voice can be heard.
