Businesses refuse to appear before inquiry
22 June 2012
Arms exporters BAE Systems, Thales and Carillion, and oil multinational BP, have refused to appear before a parliamentary inquiry into UK Export Finance.
The All-Party Parliamentary Group on International Corporate Responsibility is currently holding an inquiry into how UK Export Finance can both support economic growth and sustainable and responsible business. However, the four businesses turned down invitations to give evidence.
Jubilee Debt Campaign has submitted written evidence to the inquiry, and gave oral evidence on 12 June. The final oral evidence session will be open to the public and take place on Tuesday 26 June. Those giving evidence will include UK Export Finance and Norwegian MP Hans Syversen. Mr Syversen was part of the successful campaign to recognise that loans given to countries to buy Norwegian ships were illegitimate and did not need to be repaid.
