Bolivian MPs call for debt audit
This would provide a good opportunity to have a scrutinising look at Bolivia’s debt, to ascertain its legitimacy and lawfulness. Debt auditing entails a detailed investigation into where debts have come from, what loaned money has been spent on and whether it has been effective if it is developmental.
They will be attempting to review the legitimacy of debts that were “entered into without the people’s consent”. To look that the efficiency and effectiveness of projects funded by loans that have seemingly failed in reducing the countries overall poverty levels. Finally how despite some debt cancellation the country remains in an uncontrollable amount of debt.
The Jubilee Debt Campaign supports this call for a debt audit seeing it as a chance to shine some light on the origins and continued growth in Bolivian debts. To create further concrete evidence for the illegitimacy of these crippling debts.
