About Jubilee Schools
Q. Who’s it for?A. Schools of all types, with students of all age groups, with a desire to do more for the world’s poor can become Jubilee Schools.
Q. What’s the point?
A. School communities will be provided with practical ways to become more informed and active in the fight to save lives and restore hope for the millions of people affected by the debt crisis.
Q. How does it work?
A. Jubilee Schools agree to:
- Affirm the aims of the Jubilee Debt Campaign in their work to free poor people and countries from the burden of unjust and unpayable debt
- Provide two contact people (one staff member and one student) to facilitate education and action on debt
- Take at least one school-wide action a year on debt
- Deliver at least one debt-focused assembly per year.
They are also encouraged to:
- Set aside an area in a common space for display of social justice materials
- Consider JDC as a possible recipient of any charity fundraising they undertake.
In return, the Jubilee Debt Campaign will send:
- A Jubilee School Action Pack (see below)
- Regular news updates via email and/or post
- Information about new and updated educational materials, for Citizenship and many other subjects, on the Jubilee Debt Campaign website
- Information and updates about the activities of other Jubilee Schools.
The Jubilee School Action Pack will include:
- A Jubilee School certificate, indicating our shared aims and ideals
- Posters and other display materials
- Details of actions on debt appropriate for use in schools, and materials for use in classrooms and assemblies.
