ACT NOW: No step back on climate loans

Our Climate Debt campaign with the World Development Movement has been demanding an end to unjust ‘climate loans’ which force impoverished countries to pay twice for the effects of climate change.

Success
Last year we celebrated a partial success when the UK pledged £10 million to the official UN Climate Adaptation Fund and gave the majority of its £85 million World Bank contribution in the form of grants not loans.

Keep up the pressure
Ahead of UN climate talks in Doha this December, we’re keeping the pressure on the UK to put a complete stop to locking countries into debt with unjust climate loans.

Both the Liberal Democrats and Conservatives made pre-election promises on climate loans. So we are sending copies of these promises to MPs to remind them of these potential broken promises if the government backtracks on progress made last year.
