A Matter of Interest
Suggested age range: 11 - 14 yearsEstimated time required: 13 minutes running time
Format: VHS video or DVD; A4 booklet Details: A low-budget but effective animated film. The graphics are clear and simple and the message well presented. The comparisons between Maisy's high street business, the imaginary Brazico and the real third world cases give variety and insight. It is suggested that teachers check that pupils understand the difference between fixed and variable interest rates prior to students watching this video. Also, explain 'subsidies', 'devaluation' and 'coup'. Although produced in 1990, facts have remained largely current, due to focus being on factors behind the debt crisis and less on specific events in debt campaigning.
